At Providence Place, we promote independence, socialization, and an active lifestyle amongst our residents, while providing a safe, caring, compassionate environment. We value each individual's contributions to our community, and our highly trained, caring and compassionate care partners are dedicated to providing each individual with a high level of personalized care and support.

The well-being of our residents is of utmost importance, and we strive to provide our community with all the comforts of home. Families will find a balance between privacy and community living.

We follow the Eden Model of Seniors Care, and provide our residents with the opportunity to maintain an active, independent lifestyle, while taking away the burden of home maintenance and yard work. Live independently, with the freedom to whatever you wish!

Location

Located adjacent to the Daysland Hospital and owned by the Daysland and District Aging In Place Foundation. The Foundation is a not for profit group with a board made up of representatives from various groups, including Town Council. The original board and society started plans on their vision of Providence Place in 1997, and Phase 1 opened its doors in July of 2000. Phase 11 followed in 2006, phase 111 in 2008, and Phase 1V in 2011.

Our Philosophy

Providence Place has adopted the Eden Model of Care as our guiding philosophy. The Eden philosophy is based on 10 principles that provide guidance on how we can ensure our residents live meaningful lives. It creates an environment that promotes activities and social interactions for our seniors and encourages them to be active members of their communities, and to be involved every day in activities which they find meaningful. It creates an atmosphere where seniors want to live, families want to visit and care partners want to be employed.

At Providence Place we are focused on wellness, rather than illness. Our residents are vital, active members of our community – and they have a lot of fun! Our seniors not only partake in, but are encouraged to plan and initiate many of our social activities! They have voices and choices, and their new lifestyles are filled with satisfying and gratifying growth for themselves and their loved ones.

We provide numerous opportunities for social interaction amongst our residents and their families. Afternoon teas, birthday celebrations, parties, games, crafts, exercise classes, scheduled daily activities and social outings are enjoyed by our residents and care partners alike. Through our residents board, our management and care partners continually seek our seniors input so as to provide the best experience possible for our family here at Providence Place.

Aging in Place

We all wish to stay in our homes for as long as possible. Providence Place supports having our residents move between levels of care with the least possible amount of disruption for themselves and their families, and to remain in their home of choice for as long as possible.

The Center for Disease Control defines aging in place as "the ability to live in one's own home and community safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level." Most adults would prefer to age in place—that is, remain in their home of choice as long as possible.

Pets

Well-behaved pets weighing less than 30 pounds may be permitted with approval of the manager. Pets must be clean, well behaved and quiet. Pets must be immunized with the appropriate documentation, and are permitted in the common areas.

Lifestyle Choices
Residents choose when they rise, when they rest and when their suites are cleaned. They are welcome to eat in the dining room or prepare their own in suite meal if they wish. Guests are always welcome to join us in the dining room and common rooms.

All of our care partners participate in continuing education and training, so as to maintain the highest standards of care for our residents. As well, all care partners conduct is keeping with the Eden Model of Care.

In order to maintain the high quality care we pride ourselves on, Providence Place has both internal and external quality controls in place, including the following:

Alberta Government Standards
Providence Place surpasses Alberta Government standards for seniors’ facility operations in the following competencies:

Excellence in resident care
Cleanliness
Excellence in food service
Creating and maintaining a hospitable, friendly, home-like environment
Offering high-quality social/recreational opportunities
Retaining high-quality personnel

We are licensed through the Social Care Facilities Licensing Act and follow Alberta’s Accommodation Standards.

Standards of Excellence Inspections (SOE)
Providence Place participates in a program of unscheduled inspections in regards to cleanliness and organization, quality and service standards. Results of SOEs are made available to owners and governing authorities.

Supportive Living Inspections
Supportive Living Facilities are assessed according to Government of Alberta Standards for Continuing Care Facilities. Staff have checklists to ensure that all standards are maintained on a daily basis. All facilities contracted by Alberta Health Services are subject to regular announced and unannounced reviews by Alberta Health Services.

Assessment of New Personnel
New care partners receive in house training and are assessed to ensure high standards are being met. All care partners receive a complete orientation as well as a full review of the Providence Place Wellness Strategies manual. Continuing education/training is required and all care partners receive an annual performance review.

Health Care Aide Certification
We have one of the highest levels of care partners certification in Alberta and require all of our Health Care Aides to be certified. To this end, we have partnered with Norquest to ensure consistent, top quality training for all our Health Care Aides.

Wellness Strategies Review
The Wellness Strategies manuals of Providence Place are reviewed and updated annually by our management team. Providence Place has detailed wellness strategies manuals that are reviewed and updated annually by a member of the management team.
